Limitations and Differences

The OpenAPI specification provides a REST-like representation of the GraphQL API. Some GraphQL features do not have direct OpenAPI equivalents:

  • Field selection โ€” GraphQL allows you to request specific fields. The OpenAPI endpoints return complete objects as defined in the schema.

  • Nested queries โ€” GraphQL supports nested queries in a single request. The OpenAPI representation creates separate endpoints for each operation.

  • Introspection โ€” GraphQL provides built-in schema introspection. For OpenAPI, use the specification file itself as the schema definition.

For full GraphQL capabilities, use the native GraphQL endpoint. The OpenAPI specification is provided for tooling compatibility and REST-style workflows.
