With saved queries, for better organization, you can attach labels to them. You can add them when creating saved query, or add them later with the addSavedQueryLabels() GraphQL mutation. There can be at most ten labels per saved query, with a maximum length of sixty characters per label.

When you execute this mutation, it will return information on the updated saved query, if successful — null with errors, if not. The return values can include all of the labels for the saved query, the ones added and saved previously. From this you may choose to delete some labels. Use the removeSavedQueryLabels() mutation to do that.

Stability Level Long-Term

Syntax

graphql
addSavedQueryLabels(
      input: AddSavedQueryLabels!
   ): SavedQuery

For the input, you have to give the name of the view or repository, and the unique identifier of the saved query to which you want to add labels (click on Show Query below). And, you'll have to provide within brackets, a comma-separated list of labels to add.

For the return datatype, you can get details on the saved query, including a list of labels for it. See the Returned Datatype section farther down this page.

Given Datatype

You'll have to give the view or repository name and the unique identifier of the saved query to which you want to add labels — and a comma-separated list of labels to add, within square-brackets. This is described here in the table for this datatype. Click on the Show Query link under the Syntax section above for an example of how to get the saved query identifiers.

Table: AddSavedQueryLabels

ParameterTypeRequiredDefaultStabilityDescription
Some arguments may be required, as indicated in the Required column. For return datatypes, this indicates that you must specify which fields you want returned in the results.
Table last updated: Nov 17, 2025
idstringyes Long-TermThe unique identifier of the saved query.
labels[string]yes Long-TermThe labels for the saved query. There can be at most ten labels, each with a maximum length of sixty characters.
viewNameRepoOrViewNameyes Long-TermThe name of the view of the saved query. RepoOrViewName is a scalar.

Returned Datatype

For the results, you can get a yaml template of the saved query, when and who created it, and other related data. What will probably be of interest the most when using this mutation is the labels parameter to get a list of labels in case you want to remove some or add more. Below is a list of what's available, along with descriptions of them:
