Page Watches and Notifications

Page watches let you monitor specific documentation pages for updates. When a watched page is updated, you receive a notification in the documentation site.

Watching Pages

Add pages to your watch list to be notified when they're updated:

  1. On any documentation page, look for the Watch This Page button in the page header area (next to the update date)

  2. Click the button to add the page to your watch list

  3. The button changes to Unwatch This Page ✓ to indicate the page is being watched

  4. Click again to remove the page from your watch list

Viewing Notifications

When watched pages are updated, notifications appear in the documentation header:

  • A notification badge appears on the bell icon in the header showing the number of unread notifications

  • Click the bell icon to open the notification dropdown

  • The dropdown shows a list of updated pages with:

    • Page title

    • Update date

    • Dismiss button to mark as read

  • Click a notification to navigate to the updated page and automatically mark it as read

  • Click Clear Read Notifications to remove all notifications you've already read

Managing Your Watch List

Access and manage all your watched pages from one location:

  1. Open the User Preferences menu in the top-right corner

  2. Select Watch: Manage Watch List

  3. The watch list page shows all watched pages in a table with:

    • Page title (with link to the page)

    • Manual/version the page belongs to

    • Date you added the watch

    • Last known update date

    • Remove button to stop watching

  4. Click Check for Updates Now to manually check all watched pages for updates

  5. Use Clear All Watches to remove all pages from your watch list at once

You can also check for updates at any time from the User Preferences menu by selecting Watch: Check for Updates.

How Watch Notifications Work

The notification system works as follows:

  • When you watch a page, the system records the page's current update date

  • Each time you load any page in the documentation, the system checks if any of your watched pages have been updated

  • If a watched page has a newer update date than the last time you checked, a notification is created

  • Notifications remain until you click on them to visit the page or dismiss them manually

  • Watched pages and notifications are stored in your browser's local storage and are specific to the device and browser you use
