  • Create actions permission

This content covers how to create automated actions in LogScale through the Actions page, including step-by-step instructions for creating actions from scratch, from templates, or from existing packages. The 'Create actions' permission allows you to configure different action types with specific properties, utilizing message templates and variables for sending automated messages.

The Actions page is where actions are created.

To create a new action:

  1. From the Repositories and Views tab, select a repository or view for which you want to configure an action.

  2. Click the Automation tab

  3. Select Actions → +New action.

  4. In the New action dialog, enter a name for the action and choose how to create it:

    • Empty action creates a new empty action from scratch: the New action dialog is displayed, name it and then click Continue:

      In the properties form, select the Action Type to create — Webhook for example. Until the action is not saved, the type is set and you can edit and update the action across the different types.

    • From template based on an existing action template. Use an existing template or upload a template that you have previously exported, then click Continue:

      When creating an action from an existing template, the dialog for the corresponding action type will be shown and cannot be changed. See the corresponding action types for information on the supported configuration parameters.

    • From package based on an existing action templates that are part of an installed LogScale package, then click Create action:

      When creating from an existing package, the package and action name must be selected, and the package must have previously been installed into the repository. See Package Management for more information on packages and installation.

  5. Alternatively, right-click the ⋮ menu to:

    • Import from template, this allows you to upload a template that has been previously exported

    • Import from package, this allows you to upload an existing action template that is part of an installed LogScale package.

    In either cases, click Import to continue.

  6. Click Continue: the Action type dialog is displayed.

  7. From the drop-down menu, select a type and fill in the required fields (vary depending on the type). For a description of the fields, see the description of each action type.

  8. When you finish setting the properties for the new action, click Create action.

  9. Optional: click Test action to verify that the action is working properly before creating it. See Action testing messages for the list of errors you may encounter.

LogScale uses message templates and variables to create the messages sent by actions. They currently apply to some of the available action types — see Message Templates and Variables for more information.

Action testing messages

When testing actions to identify issues, you may encounter messages from LogScale. The following table contains messages and resolutions for actions.
